SCOLT Friend of World Languages Award Information
This award is given to those who support and promote the study of world languages through speaking up on behalf of world language study, getting world language programs initiated, working in some way with legislation, obtaining or helping with funding, and contributing to state-wide and national initiatives related to world language study. Nominees are non language education personnel. Nominees should:
- Contribute beyond the call of job-related duties.
- Promote in a positive way world language study and use.
Examples of support for which individuals might be recognized are as follows:
- Volunteering to teach a world language in a special setting
- Voicing support for language programs in public arenas and through written medium
- Hosting and/or sending exchange students over a period of time
- Introducing students or adults to a productive use for world languages
- Supporting world language education through donation of time, money, or public advocacy
- Exposing in journalistic writings the value of world language study and cross-cultural education
- Contributing to and/or sponsoring legislation
(Note: A nominee does not have to meet all criteria to be considered for the recognition.)
World language educators and language-learning businesses are not eligible. Each recipient will receive a certificate and a letter of recognition. Please submit your nominations to: :
