SCOLT announces the TEACHER of EXCELLENCE AWARDS (P-12 and Post-Secondary) to be presented at the annual joint conference. Deadline for submission: November 1, 2009.

NOMINATION PACKET REQUIREMENTS: All nomination packets must include the following:

  • Cover sheet. Click here to download the TOE coversheet from the SCOLT website.
  • Letter of nomination including nominee’s name, address, position, role in the foreign language profession and in SCOLT conferences, capacity in which the nominator has known the candidate, and detailed evidence of the ways in which the candidate meets the criteria for the award (not to exceed 2 pages) 
  • Statement from the nominee of acceptance of the nomination and willingness, if selected, to accept the award in person as our guest at the Conference Awards Luncheon.  
  • CV/résumé including: education, employment, professional memberships/activities (especially in SCOLT), selected honors (not to exceed 5 pages)
  • Three letters of support of the nomination (any combination from principal or dean, local or state supervisor, department chair, colleagues, or students/former students–on letterhead paper when applicable, originals, not faxed, photocopied or emailed.) (Not to exceed 1 page each) 
  • One typed original copy of all documentation, only paper-clipped together, no staples, no plastic covers, submitted in a sealed envelope POSTMARKED BY NOVEMBER 1, 2009.

Nominations will be accepted from SCOLT member organizations or SCOLT Advisory Board members for the SCOLT Teacher of Excellence Awards based on the following criteria:

  • Excellence in Foreign Language Teaching: (60%) (Examples of supporting documents: Awards, letters, student/teaching recognition, certifications, board license, evidence of creative approaches to teaching, evidence of inspiration to students, evidence of standards-based and individualized teaching, outstanding student achievement, pedagogical publications/research, student evaluation summaries, etc.)
  • Active participation in SCOLT and SCOLT Conferences: (20%) (Attendance, sessions, workshops, offices, committees, contributions to SCOLT publications, etc.)
  • Leadership and advocacy: (15%) (Institution, community state, national, and language specific orgs: projects, committees, parent/institutional/community/political advocacy, camps, outreach programs, exchange programs, club sponsorships, mentoring, recruiting, publications, etc.)
  • Participation in local, state and national organization(s): (5%) (Attendance, presentations, offices, committees, etc.)
